A Random Reddit Post Changed Everything
Sarah wasn’t sure she’d ever find her mom group. She’d looked around, tried a few things, and nothing quite clicked — until a random Reddit scroll led her to the North Austin Family Network. “I’ve been looking for a local, low-stress mom group for a while,” she says. “NAFN seemed like a great opportunity to try to find my people during a 1-hour meetup timeframe with no pressure.”
She showed up anyway. And she’s really glad she did.
A Little Overwhelmed, A Lot of Grateful
That first meetup? “A little overwhelming to meet so many new folks all at once — only because I’m bad at remembering names.” (Honestly, same.) But she kept coming back, and over time the faces became friends. Today, Sarah’s found a realtor for her family’s first home purchase through the group, regular playdates for her 3-year-old son, and a special bond with fellow boy moms — swapping stories about their “little wild animals” with knowing laughs.
Goats, Brews & a Boy Who Stole the Show
Her favorite memory? Bringing her son to 5th Element Brewing on a week when there were goats to pet. “He and I both had the best time together!” Her go-to local discovery through the group is The Field House at The Crossover — a contained playground where she can actually breathe without chasing him to the parking lot.
What She Wants Every Nervous Mama to Know
“Pick a few folks right near you to chat with, and you’ll get to know the whole group over time.” And her parenting wisdom? Pure gold: “If you’re worried if you’re doing it right, you’re already doing a great job.”
