What to expect at your first event
Before the event:
- Find the date, time, location of the event -add it to your calendar so you don’t forget!
- Don’t be nervous
- Reach out with questions.
During the event:
- Find us – you can talk to the venue staff if you’re having a hard time.
- Introduce yourself, relax, be authentic.
- Give your number to the event host.
After the Event:
- Fill out the survey texted to you by the host.
- Join the WhatsApp group chat
- Put the next event you can attend on your calendar! You can’t build community by attending one event, repetition is so important.
FAQs
Can I bring my kids?
Our Mama Meet Up and Dad Meet Up events are parent focused, so you’re welcome to bring your kiddos if it doesn’t take away from your experience building community. We recommend bringing activities or snacks for your kiddos, as entertainment will not be provided. About half our mom’s bring their kiddos to mama met up.
Our events outside of Mama Meet Up and Dad Meet Up are all family focused, so kids are encouraged unless specifically stated – example: Mom’s Night Out.
What if I’m expecting and haven’t had my baby yet?
Expecting Mamas and Dads are more than welcome at our events. It’s a great choice to build your community before baby arrives, and we can’t wait to share the highs and lows of parenthood with you.
Do I need to prepare anything?
Typically, a member’s first event would be the Mama Meet Up, Dads Meet Up, or Family Meet Up and you will never be asked to prepare anything for these events. We also do various ad-hoc events that include park meet ups, pot lucks, and ticketed events which may required advanced preparation but we will let you know about that before you come! You can always reach out to us in advance by messaging on Instagram or texting us at (512) 270 – 8588.
How will I find you the day of the event?
We get this question a lot, but there’s no reason to be nervous finding us your first time! If we see you walking in confused, we will wave you over to join us at our table! You can also always reach out to us via Instagram, or text us at (512) 270 – 8588. Finally, we always let the restaurant staff know where we are sitting and they can point you to us.
Who can attend meet ups?
Our meet ups are open invite for all parents located in North Austin. We welcome all types of families. There’s no specific region that you must live to be considered North Austin, but most of our events are located in Leander. We are not affiliated to any business, religion or political organization, and we welcome a diverse group parents of all types to our group.
Is this a business? What do you sell? What’s the catch?
Not a business, nothing for sale. The North Austin Family Network is a 501c3 non-profit organization. We are not affiliated with any business, religion, or political organization. The group is open invite, so anyone can attend. The catch? We don’t provide activities for you or your littles, so bring your own stuff. Also – you might find your people but you might not click – we make no promises because every single person is different and looking for different things from a community. We bring our authentic selves, and hope you will too.
What if I’m not a parent?
There are many other meet ups in the North Austin area that could be a good fit for you – since we are in the meet-up “biz” we are happy to recommend another meet up that’s not affiliated with any business, religion or political organization that could be a better fit.
